Kleenex needed a new illustrative design for a square box. Each of the sides had to line up and look like a solid image. The concept was up to me, and wide open. There weren’t any restrictions on what the images had to be, but they had to be clean, interesting, and high quality.
I wanted a modern and elegant looking package that would be able to be placed in any home for any age. Initially I had the thought of doing an underwater theme - taking some inspiration from one of my favorite artists, Alvaro Tapia Hidalgo, I wanted to play with lines, color, and layers. Once I had drawn one of the animals, I would take multiple layers and make them lines or transparent blocks of colors. After making all of the layers, I would align them overtop of each other creating a dreamlike image of ocean creatures. Placing them on a black background makes each of the vibrant colors pop and push the dream like quality that I wanted, it makes them float in a void and gives a sense of weightlessness to them.
Overall the box came out as I was planning, a piece of art and a functional product.
